Central Vista Redevelopment Project – Three years later, when the country celebrates the 75th anniversary of independence, a lot will change from Rashtrapati Bhavan (President House) to India Gate and its surroundings. The country will get a new parliament building and a new central secretariat.

The process of construction of the new Parliament House has started. Along with this, such a central secretariat will also be constructed in which the whole government can sit together. The Central Vista will be developed from Rashtrapati Bhavan (President House) to India Gate.

According to highly placed sources in the Ministry of Urban Development, the reconstruction work of Central Vista from Rashtrapati Bhavan to India Gate in the country’s capital Delhi will start from January 30, 2020. In any case, it is targeted to be completed by November 2021. So that the following year’s parade of 26 January 2022 can be held here.

What is Central Vista Project?

The area in which the Rashtrapati Bhavan, Parliament House, North Block, South Block, India Gate and other National Archives are located in Delhi is collectively known as Central Vista Project. Its length is about 3.2 km.

In the proposal, the new Parliament building and the Central Secretariat will be constructed keeping in mind the needs of the next two and a half years. A proposal like creating additional space in the existing Parliament House is also being considered.

But if this is not possible, then a new parliament building will be constructed. For this, the space behind the Rashtrapati Bhavan can be used.

Common Central Secretariat will also be constructed

The Ministry of Urban Development says that for more than 70 thousand employees of the Central Secretariat, the Common Central Secretariat will be made. All the departments of the ministries will be formed simultaneously so that there is ease of functioning.

It has been told that – There are some such ministries, whose departments are in 47 different places. There is a plan to remove the buildings made by the ministries and construct them afresh. It is obvious that the separate ministry buildings around the Parliament House will have to be removed and space made for it.

But North Block, South Block and Parliament House will be protected by declaring them as heritage buildings. These buildings, being old, are in the heritage category. But ministries cannot be kept here. It was told that these buildings are not even earthquake resistant, which has been classified as unsafe.

Currently, the central ministries rent private buildings for their various departments, on which Rs 1,000 crore has to be spent every year.

Proper arrangements will have to be made in the new parliament house

Bids were invited by the Central Public Works Department for the construction of the new Parliament building. Tata Projects Ltd bid Rs 861.90 crore, while Larsen & Turbo Ltd bid Rs 865 crore.

According to news agency PTI, Tata Projects Limited won the bidding process on Wednesday. It will now construct the new Parliament House for Rs 861.90 crore.

Seven companies, including Uttar Pradesh Rajya Nirman Nigam Limited, submitted pre-eligibility bids for the construction of the new Parliament House.

According to the online tender portal of the Central Public Works Department (CPWD), these companies include – Tata Projects Ltd, Larsen & Toubro Ltd, ITD Cementation India Ltd, NCC Ltd, Shapoorji Pallonji & Co Private, Uttar Pradesh State Construction Corporation Ltd And PSP Projects Ltd Was involved.

The bid invite notice stated that the new building would be constructed near the existing Parliament House under the Central Vista redevelopment project. It is estimated to be completed in 21 months.

Not only this, it was estimated to cost Rs 889 crore. The central government’s major construction agency CPWD had said that the new building would be constructed on plot number 118 of ‘Parliament House Estate’.

The Central Public Works Department (CPWD) has stated that till the completion of the project, the work will continue in the existing Parliament House.

It is believed that work on the new building will start after the monsoon session of Parliament is over. Some reports have stated that the new building will have 900 seats for sitting MPs, while the combined session will have a seating capacity of 1350 MPs.

The monsoon session to be held in July of 2022 is set to be held in the new parliament.
